An individual who spiked treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities again.

She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
